VISION: Together for a Better World!
I am a social entrepreneur in Cameroon,West Africa.
I've been researching on the opportunities and obstacles to developing community and school based links and partnerships in Cameroon and the Central African region.
I am the brain child of the Cameroonian grassroots NGO Better World Cameroon (BWC) registered in Cameroon in 1996 and is redefining how young people in Cameroon see our planet and reconnecting them to their future through ecological agriculture. On the platform of Voluntary Service Oversea (VSO) BWC is carrying out a long term Organisational Development Plan for linking and partnerships for sustainable development in the region based on responsible solidarity actions which are kind to the world's environment.

Much success has been achieved in constructing positive UK community links with local communities in many African Commonwealth countries; however Cameroon is a beautiful Cinderella who has missed out on the happy party.
Many people may not realise that Cameroon is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations; it was a late accession, as recent as 1995. The country has had a complex European colonial history: originally German (Kameroon) then, after 1919, split into the British Cameroons and French Cameroun, the country is now an unitary state with anglo-phone and franco-phone communities living together.
Enormously diverse ethnically and ecologically; there are some 252 different linguistic cultural groups in a population of 16 million spread over landscapes as varied as the dry Sahel region in the north, from the mountain forests and upland grasslands of the west to the equatorial forest of the south. Truly “the Hinge of Africa”, Cameroon is a country at the centre of the cultural and environmental crossroads of the continent.
The UK BetterWorld Cameroon Link organisation intends to encourage local communities in the UK to create linked partnerships with communities in Cameroon and to thereby promote global citizenship and solidarity, development education and awareness etc.
A pilot project could be initiated by convening representatives of local community interests (schools, hospitals, churches, local government, commerce, voluntary organisations, cultural organisations etc.) with a proposal to grasp the opportunity of establishing a partnership link with a community in Cameroon. Once a town or school or faith based organisation has been identified as a suitable candidate for the pilot project.
The Cameroon One World Linking Association will be asked to assist in this convention. The challenge will be to conclude with a commitment by the community representatives to organise a group visit to meet the prospective partner community in Cameroon. The BetterWorld Cameroon NGO will be invited to convene similar meetings with representatives of Cameroonian local community representatives willing to reach out in partnership with a foreign local community and explore the options together.
One World – a BetterWorld.
