Setting up and running a charity is a massive undertaking. Why not concentrate your efforts on supporting an orgaisation which already exists? If your drive doesn't fit with the Oxfam's of this world, there are hundreds of small charities working in Africa which would welcome your support. Here are some examples:
You can search for charities by keyword on the CharityCommission website to find one which works in the way you want to.
Computers 4 Africa is a UK based non profit who accept donations of unwanted working IT equipment. After data wiping and refurbishment donated machines are shipped to schools, colleges and non government community projects accross Africa. Hi prisca5cilla, I agree with buddyboy that setting up a charity is a huge decision. That's not to say that you should feel discouraged. The important thing is to make an informed decision. We've just launched a 30-minute video training course on setting up a charity in our StudyZone area of the site. It explores whether setting up a new organisation is the right decision, what the other options are and what your first steps should be if you do decide to set one up. It's delivered by someone who actually set up a charity in Africa herself. There's is also a discussion forum attached to this course where the trainer, Lucy Caslon, is available for questions. Good luck!
