We're at the cost effective e-communications, social networking and blogging conference. There have been lots of presentations about the use of social media in campaigning. A question from the floor asked whether ePetitions and mass emails to MPs work. What has your experience been? Have you achieved change through this method?

I think that these can complement a centralised lobbying campaign, however on their own they can appear a bit lazy. The best campaigns I have seen so far include a template (for members/stakeholders to complete) on the respective organisation's website (that can be printed-off or placed in the content of an email). This is then complemented via high profile centralised campaigns by senior organisation professionals/stakeholders/staff - Both must be branded in a similar way for maximum impact.
I have added a free widget to my website that promotes a clever little tool that finds local MPs/MEPs through the submission of postcodes: http://memberwise.org/lobbying.aspx. This can be uploaded to help organisations put their members/stakeholders in-touch with the respective MEPs/MPs.
