Overview

A well governed organisation operates more effectively and makes better business decisions. This workshop will enable you to feel more confident and knowledgeable about what good charity governance is and how to go about it. It will enable you to carry out an assessment of where your board is in relation to best practice and empower you to overcome barriers and improve matters both for your board and your beneficiaries.

Learning outcomes

Participants will develop a clear understanding of good charity governance. They will be able to assess your board’s governance practices in order to change and improve them.

10:30 Introduction to charity governance: Historical context, definition, role of the regulators and codes of good governance, roles and responsibilities of trustees

11:00 Breaking down the barriers to good governance: The Chair/Chief Executive relationship, the importance of diversity on the board, involving service users on the board
