Hello,

I am trying to set up some sort of fundraising event in order to raise money for the IVF treatment my sister and her partner need in order to start a family.

I have never done any big fundraising before, only cake sales and drama productions all organised by the school when I was younger.

I was thinking of setting up a website where information about who and why I am planning on raising money, I could also do a sponsored run/walk with friends of mine who would be willing to take part as well.

I'm just looking for some advice and pointers in the right direction, as I am not really too sure where to start!

Anything will help!

Thank you!

Hi there maddie,

here are some pages which might be useful:

- Institute of Fundraising - fundraising for an individual which includes ideas of different ways of fundraising and the legal stuff

stuff4sam case study of individual fundraising within a community of people who cared about the cause

- an article about crowdsourcing which is where you would say 'It costs XX for this treatment. If 100 people gave £XX we could do it".

My name is Cherie Ehlert. I work for  a company called Fundrazr.

Fundrazr is a crowd fundraising social media app that helps you raise money and awareness of your cause.
Money collected through personal campaigns go directly into the recipient's paypal account.
FundRazr is more than just a donation collection point. It is a social media tool that spreads a fundraising campaign exponentially through Facebook, G+ and Linked in, Blogger and Twitter. It encapsulates three things 1. Media (Video, Photo, description) 2. Connection and Community 3. Donations.  Each campaign is tailored to suit the cause.

Our fee of 4.9% includes all Paypal fees and credit card charges. The important thing about our fee is to remember that it is NOT just a give button.  It is a marketing tool that builds community, raises awareness and raises money because of the way it spreads virally through Facebook.  So the campaigns will be seen by thousands of people, and their friends, and their friends etc.  And, you don’t pay anything up front, the fees come off of the individual donations. In the end FundRazr gets 2.7% with which to pay our staff (software creators, campaign helpers, customer service reps, etc.) and further our business.

Here are links to some of our campaigns:

Those are just a couple.

We are available to help you with your campaign, but we've made it very user friendly so it's easy to do yourself. Here is a link to our 'how to' blog:

community.fundrazr.com

If your social media friends can't give, they can help just the same by sharing the campaign link and asking their friends to share it as well. This is where the pictures and video on your Fundrazr help...it draws people in, creates empathy and understanding and compels them to give OR share your link with others that can.

Cheques, links that leave Facebook, word of mouth, just can't give the same results. So, even though there is the 4.9% fee, if you keep up with sharing your Fundrazr, your marketing tool, your overall donations will be so much more.
If you have any more questions, do not hesitate to ask

Sincerely,

Cherie Ehlert
