With so many ways to ask an individual for money which are the most effective for you? Share your views and experience here. Help others to make good decisions about their fundraising methods.

Here are some individual giving examples:

Low-tech methods

  • street collections
  • collecting boxes (in shops / businesses / homes)

Ongoing methods

  • postal / phone / online donations
  • payroll schemes
  • gift aid

Using other people

  • using a third-party fundraising company to process donations
  • using a clearing house (eg GlobalGivingUK) to raise money for specific projects

(More info about individual giving)

How do you decide which methods to use and what are the pros and cons?

Some years ago I started raising money to buy equipment for a disabled child. I set up a website and received donations via PayPal which was ok. I also set up a PO Box to receive postal donations but it wasn't really worth the cost as we didn't get many.
