Subject: corporate sponsorship rate for community newsletter

I publish a weekly community newsletter that I send out by e-mail to approx 1,000 subscribers with an open rate of approx 40%. It's a bit like a village notice board  (news/events/items for sale/recommendations/jobs). It's local, positive and encourages people to shop locally, recycle etc

A local building society may be interested in sponsoring my newsletter and I'm looking for guidance on how much money to ask them for. Is there a going rate per reader? The newsletter is currently text only (with links to websites) so the sponsor's logo would be the only artwork in the e-mail.

Any advice would be very helpful. Thanks.

Hi Penny, guess it depends whether you want the sponsorship to cover some or all of your costs or whether you want to make a profit from it to invest in developing the newsletter further.

An open rate of 40% is brilliant and should be attractive to your potential sponsor.

Thanks for that feedback. It's tricky to calculate my costs because basically it's just my time (I do the newsletter through Mailchimp so that doesn't cost anything). I started the newsletter as a hobby about 3 years ago but it has grown so big that I'd love to give up my day job and work on it full time. But to do this I need to get some revenue from it - hence the need for a sponsor.
