Hello everybody,

2. questions:

1.) I want to raise money for a charity of my choice without being employed by them or affiliated with them AND thus without being paid for the effort. Do I have to apply for any legal status to do that? And what about the wording "Everything goes to the charity". Whenever I here that on TV I think to myself they must have bank transaction fees and so on... don't get me wrong I don't tend to take any cut on the donation but any online processor will cost money.... can I still say that everything goes to the charity? I mean when you explain it in length people get disinterested and tend to spend less, which ultimately hurts the cause.

2.) What online payment processor would you recommend? I guess I will get lots of small payment and Paypal takes about 30 cents per transactiion + x % which amounts to a high percentage of the overall donations if we are talking about donations of a few dollar each.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Angelus, I think it depends what you are doing to raise the funds. Could you give us a bit more information:

  • is your charity of choice a large or a small one?
  • what are you doing to generate donations (eg selling things, getting sponsorship etc)
  • are you based in the UK?

Hello,

1.) it is worldvision, which, I assume we can agree, qualifies as large.

2.) Lifestreaming music events and asking for donation... kindof the musician in front of the mall with his hat.

3.) I am based in Germany but as I plan an international project and the internet is not really geographically bound I assume I could file for any (or at least most) legal organisation.

Thanks.

Looks like WorldVision use JustGiving and Virgin Money Giving (see their fundraising page). I'd suggest using one of those to gather your funds.

Hi guys,

You can not believe how happy I am to find this website and to share with all people over the word my idea and my anxiety also. We are a small organisation called New Direction for Congo. New Direction for Congo is a Cardiff (UK) based international development organisation providing support to Congolese victims of conflict; especially women and children. As you know, the deadliest conflict since World War II, in which more than 8 million people have died and more than 2 million women have been raped, more than 30,000 child soldiers, more than 25,000 children working in mining sector, rages far from Iraq and Afghanistan. It is in the democratic Republic of Congo, where murderous militias are battling for control of valuable minerals such as tin, tantalum, tungsten and gold, which are essential to the worldwide production of consumer electronics. Congolese, in other words, are dying in extraordinary numbers for our mobile phones and video games, digital cameras and laptop computers.

We have more difficult to raise money for those victims especially widows, orphans and women raped. Please let me know the easy way we can organize a fundraising to help this people. See the link below.

Thanking you in advance for your support,

Claude
