Hi.
My name is Andrew McIntyre, and I am trying to find ways of funding for a fantastic operation called SDR (selective dorsal rhizotomy) for my 6yr old Grandson who suffers from cerebral palsy.
This operation may be able to allow Evan to walk unaided as at the moment he has to use a walking frame.
The problem is that this operation is only carried out in the USA at St Louis hospital http://www.stlouischildrens.org/content/medservices/AboutSelectiveDorsalRhizotomy.htm
And it costs around £40,000.
We are just in the assessment stages an present but if he is accepted we need to raise the money fast.
Please feel free to check out Evans blog http://evansbigjourney.blogspot.com/Any help and advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Hi Andrew,
Sorry to hear about your grandson being ill, i have put a message on the KnowHow NonProfit Twitter account asking people to submit fundraising ideas.
I would highly reccomend learning about Twitter if you currently do not use it as it can be an amazing fundraising tool.
A story that immediately springs to mind is of a child who rode around his local park a few times to raise money for the Haiti earthquake appeal. The media found out about this story and people sponsored him for over £130000.
Mashable guide to using Twitter
Another great idea using Twitter is to throw and online party, i recently a guy called Stuart Witts who works for the Marie Curie Trust. He has been threw a #tweaparty on Twitter, basically for an hour people talk to each other whilst having a cup of tea and eating cakes and sharing stories and running competition's. Here is a link to stuart's justgiving page . He beat his fundraising target.
Another idea is to throw a fundraising music concert, i personally have done a few of these and your be amazed how much people are willing to give, here is my top tips guide to putting one on.
I hope this helps.
Damien
Hi Andrew
Sorry to hear about your grandson's illness. Have you thought of contacting local volunteer organisations for fundraising support for a local appeal? You didn't say where you live, but perhaps there are branches of masons (http://www.ugle.org.uk/about-ugle/ugle-provinces-within-england-wales/), rotary (http://www.ribi.org/about-us/districts) or Lions Clubs (http://www.lionsclubs.org/EN/find-a-club.php) near you that may be in a position to help?
Good luck
TaniaHi Damien and Tania.
Many thanks for your interest and ideas, I will certainly look carefully at them.
Just to clear one thing up though, as maybe I was unclear about. Although Evan was born with cerebral palsy, it was caused by complications at birth and has only really affected his ability to walk. In all other respects he's a perfectly happy and healthy little boy, indeed he's top of his class at school and is a real little character, far in advance of his years. We are going to open a facebook page for him so that people can visit to keep track on his progress should he be accepted for the operation.
I'll keep you posted about this. We are also trying to put some video on his blog if we can, which by the way, the address I gave was slightly incorrect as it shouldn't have the "Any" on the end and should read http://evansbigjourney.blogspot.com/
Thanks again for your ideas.
Andy.Hi
My name is Liz Munday, I'd like the opportunity to hike the Great Wall of China for four charities, in May 2011 but being unemployed I'm having trouble getting the registration fee of £250 let alone the £3,200 minimum sponsership money. I'd also like to tie in to these costs a contribution to Evan's operation, as having a child of my own i can imagin that Evans inability to walk is restricting for him and a great concern for his family. Even though by the time I would be scheduled to go to China hopefully Evan will be on the road to recovery.
If anyone could give me any ideas of how to raise at least £5,500 in total to be able to help Evan and to experience this amazing opportunity I would be extremely grateful.
Thanks
Liz
Hi LizMunday.
First, thank you for even considering giving some of your sponser money for Evan. I know what it's like being unemployed, so I hope you find employment soon. You've probably already tried but some of the bigger supermarkets seem to be always taking on new staff, and they tend to be quite flexible with working hours.
As for raising funds, are you on FaceBook? It's a great oppertunity to reach out to friends who may like to sponser you for your walk, and you have a year or so to raise funds.
Thanks again for your kindness.
If you would like to follow evan's progress please feel free to visit his faceBook page, as in "evan's big journey" and his blog page http://evansbigjourney.blogspot.com/
Thanks.
Andy.
Hi,
My name is Mary Hepworth I am founder and trustee of Alberts Horse Sanctuary we are a registered charity based in South Yorkshire. We have 25 horses and donkeys, 9 sheep, 3 goats, 2 pigs, 4 cats and 2 rabbits and we rely soley on charity. We also run a charity shop. We are a very small run charity and need between 15,000 and 20,000 funding urgently. We have been forced by the council to knock our 12 stables down and relocate them we are now trying to put things back together and we have to move our electric and water supply. Without help with funding the future of these animals this winter looks very bleak. We have been running now for 5 years and find funding and people to help do any fundraising for us impossible. If you have any suggestions please help these animals deserve a life.

Hello.
My name is Viktor. For the past year I have been looking for sponsors/organizations/ fund raising opportunities to fund the surgery. I suffer from Cerebral Palsy.
I am 20 and the problem is that I am from Kyrgyzstan and I need to go to Russia to have a surgery. Cerebral Palsy affects my walking dramatically and my health condition worsen with time. I did not have a chance to take any medications that would seize the muscle spasticity. In fact, such medication is unavailable in Kyrgyzstan.
It is hard to explain what it is like to live in Kyrgyzstan (which is a third world country) if you have a disability.
My family cannot effort to pay for the surgery, which costs about $11,000
If you have any ideas that might help me or know people who might help me with funds, please let me know. I have been looking for fundraising opportunities in Kyrgyzstan, but all my attempts failed. Nevertheless, I still hope and believe that help is possible.
Please feel free to contact me at vromanov1991@gmail.com
Tania, I read your comment where you said that contacting Rotary is a good idea. There is a Rotary club in Kyrgyzstan, but they deal with educational issues only…
Thank you.
