What is nonprofit?
Nonprofit includes registered charities, community groups, social enterprises, co-ops, mutual societies, faith groups, churches, political parties and campaigning organisations - basically any organisation or activity which does not exist to raise a profit!
The KnowHow community
KnowHow is a growing community of nonprofit people sharing their questions and experiences. Everyone is welcome to join and everyone has something useful to contribute. Have your say in a forum, comment on a page or ask your own question.
We are also keen to find people / organisations who want to share their experiences by writing or editing a how-to guide, delivering a StudyZone course, writing a case study, or facilitating discussions. Find out how you can get involved in the development of this site.

About the site
The site went live in October 2008 and officially launched at the end of April 2009. We have worked with many individuals and organisations to develop the site into a useful, practical resource with links to other sources of information and help. Our partners include CES, NCVO, and NAVCA.
Who we are
The Centre for Charity Effectiveness Trust Ltd (part of the Cass Centre for Charity Effectiveness (Cass CCE)) was awarded a grant for the project by The Big Lottery Fund under the BASIS programme in 2008. The project ran from Cass CCE for three years and in November 2011, KnowHow officially merged with NCVO.
The site uses the Open Source Content Management System, Plone and is managed by our partners Text Matters.
We are a small project team working with lots of great people to make this site a useful and interesting resource. The project team includes Linden Muirhead (Head of Operations) Luke Chaput de Saintonge (Head of Content), Madeleine Sugden (Content Manager), Tom McHugh (Content Manager (Community and Membership)) and Cristina Tiberian (Multimedia Content Manager).
