Sorry to interrupt…

We are a charity website still in development and you could really help by telling us what you think of the site. Once you have had a chance to see the site, would you take part in a very short, confidential survey? You just have to click Launch Survey (it will open in a new window). Thank you very much.

Informal accountability

Sources of informal accountability for boards of nonprofit organisations.

Living up to your informal accountability responsibilities requires you and your executive staff to assess and make sure you understand what your stakeholders expect of you. It is then up to you to work with your stakeholders to find the best ways to be accountable to them.

The key stakeholders for nonprofit organisations include:

  • beneficiaries, users or customers
  • members
  • staff
  • volunteers and supporters
  • donors and funders
  • partners
  • statutory bodies and regulators
  • the local community
  • the public
  • suppliers.

For more information on understanding stakeholders see stakeholder analysis.
