If you have a number of potential alternative solutions to a strategic challenge, it can help to set some criteria against which to assess and compare them. Here is one suggestion for decision-making criteria you might use. You could even weight elements and add up a score.

Criteria Option 1 Option 2 etc

Fit with Mission, Vision, Values

Impact on beneficiary

Appropriateness to the culture

Impact of change agenda on organisation (structure etc)

Your capacity to pursue (consider investment, other effort etc)

Level of support for the option

(internal and external)

Break-even point

(in years)

Sustainability

(years to receive payback after break even)
