we have just interviewed for an admin officer, we had one person who was really suitable for the job, but they have asked if they can bring their 12 month old child into the office everyday. We have no creche facilities in the office, how do we stand legally if we turn down this applicant on those grounds?
Can anyone help?

Hi Lynnie,
There is no obligation on you as an employer to provide these facilities.
I would suggest that you offer the suitable candidate the position, but make it clear that you have no childcare facilities and therefore they would need to find suitable childcare facilities elsewhere.
Your candidate may find the following link useful:

Good luck!

You might just want to check what they mean by "bring their 12 month old child in everyday". If they have a child care arrangement but this starts at 10 and they need to bring them in at 9 for an hour (for instance) that is one thing (and can be dealt with by flexible working). If it is all day every day that is quite another!
