Subject: Where is best to advertise for volunteers
Looking urgently for someone to replace our costume-person who had to leave due to family committments. I am trying to plug the gap but between that, theatre group admin and preparing for the next show which I am going to be directing, working and doing my Masters, I am struggling with 18 - 20 hour days, and really need someone else to help. (not take it all on, but simply to share the load a bit).
We have mixed results with using the online advertising sites for volunteers, as a lot of people apply but then do not respond to further contact, and while we get the most results with I-volunteer, and none at all from our local areas volunteering site.
Please do you have any ideas as to other places to advertise, or other sites? we tend to post on our own social networks, plus on Torcom (our local area volunteer site) and I-volunteer (national site)... but its getting worrying for the next show, and we can really do with spreading the word as much as possible. (local papers are limited in publication and not usually an option...)

You could try advertising on Charity Jobs, I'm pretty sure it is free if it is for a voluntary position. I think Gumtree will also give you a free advert if it is a voluntary position.

If you are looking for someone with specific skills and a passion for costumes, is there a local college course or evening class about costume / dressmaking / fashion / theatre studies which you could approach? It might be easier to recruit people from these places as they already have an interest in your activities?
I have contacted the local techincal college that has courses like this, but the youngsters, I was told, are not interested in "historical" theme costume/ dressmaking.
I tried charity jobs but it wouldnt go through without a fee, so sadly not an option.

If you're looking to advertise a volunteer post, providing it's not an internship, CharityJob should let you list your volunteer vacancy without any problem (or charge!). We did one last month, that went through fine. For other ideas on recruitment advertising, you could look on HRBird for a list of recruiters/advertising.
