Barbara has over 20 years experience in voluntary and not for profit organisations including Citizens Advice, the National Housing Federation and more recently Volunteering England where she was a member of the senior team leading mergers, significant growth and change. She is a training professional and a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
At the National Housing Federation, Barbara managed commercial services, including training and development, publications, consultancy, conferences and NVQ Services. She was instrumental in establishing a national training organisation for housing with the Chartered Institute of Housing.
In her role with Volunteering England she was involved in a number of government and sector initatives aimed at increasing volunteering in the public and private sectors and building capacity in the Third Sector. As Director of Management and Leadership, her team had responsibility for Investing in Volunteers, Excellence in Volunteer Management and Employer Supported Volunteering. She delivered significant projects through the ChangeUp Volunteering Hub and represented Volunteering England on Business in the Community CARES Leadership Team, the Governance Hub and the England Committee of the Worforce Hub.
She left Volunteering England in April 2008 to set up her consultancy business and established Dare to Change which provides practical innovative approaches to enable organisations to think about, plan and implement change effectively.
This includes supporting consortia, housing associations and other non profit organisations on governance, strategy and business planning, leadership and management development and one to one coaching.
As a keen volunteer, Barbara is a Director of Impetus, a local infrastructure organisation and is the external representative on Girlguiding UK’s national Guiding Development Committee.
