How to go about finding a trustee for your non profit or charitable organisation.

by WEditor last modified Nov 17, 2011 02:30 PM

Finding the right person to fill your trustee role can be difficult. Often trustees are appointed through people known to the board or the management team.

Where to look for trustees

  • The Trustee network (CTN) has a trusteefinder service which allows you to post your trustee and management committee vacancies for anywhere in the UK.
  • NCVO also have an online Trusteebank which is a directory of organisations providing help in recruiting trustees, both nationally and locally.
  • TrusteeWorks is a paid-for service to help you recruit and manage your trustees.

How to find a trustee

The NCVO pocket guide Recruit a Trustee has guidance about writing job descriptions and finding the right person. If you want more detail, this section about planning trustee recruitment is useful and contains a link to the Good Practice in Trustee Recruitment Toolkit.

Reach have produced an excellent guide to recruiting and then keeping trustees called Finders, Keepers.

In October 2009 KnowHow hosted a trustee matching event. Our podcasts from the event explore the role of a trustee. The event was organised in association with nfp resourcing.
