I have an idea for a non-profit organisation. I also have a desire to be self employed. Would it be unethicical or even unviable to set up a non-profit organisation with the aim of paying myself a decent wage? Or is the done thing to just volunteer for your own non-profit organisation?
Thanks for your advice on this matter.

I'd say it really depends on the need and the funding environment. If you can get together the research and the evidence to show that there is a real need and there are no existing organisations or groups meeting the need, then you will have a much stronger case to take to funders. But even so, I've seen some excellent causes who have still struggled to get funding. So I guess, you would have to do a lot of work voluntarily, researching the need and persuading funders before the organisation got started. As to whether it's ethical to pay yourself a decent wage, I suppose it depends on what you call a decent wage....I shall leave those with a greater understanding of ethics to comment on that..
